Gampel’s thesis, “Above the Noise,” took the form of an oratorio, a type of large-scale musical work consisting of narrative songs which generally center around some type of sacred subject. “Above the Noise” is a contemporary update of the form, addressing themes of religion and identity on the modern college campus.
In Beckham Hall, Cerny performed his senior music thesis, “Groove Science,” which centered around renowned record producer and rapper James Yancy (J Dilla). The performance featured Cerny on the drums, Alex Tripp on guitar, Gabe Leeman on bass, and Daphne Gampel singing.
